When your clothing creates a feeling.

In my WIW yesterday I said that the outfit made me feel like a dancer. Something about the flowy tunic tank over leggings and ballet flats made me feel like I should be dancing ballet or lyrical. The outfit was so comfortable and had such a high happiness factor that I would like more of that feeling. I have been tossing around the idea of wanting a ballerina/dancer type wrap sweater and skirted leggings and after yesterday it really reinforced that desire. Apparently I like feeling like a dancer, lol.

Do your outfits ever bring on certain feelings?

I'm pretty sure rachylou's going to get the prize for the best answer on this one!

    Definitely!

I feel more athletic when I wear sportier looks, and more of a badass when I wear tougher looks, for example.

Sometimes! And sometimes it's not good. A while back I wore rolled-up slouchy skinnies with toeless tan boots and a plaid shirt, and realized (too late; we were already at the movies) that I felt like I was dressed for a hoe-down. Urgh.

    YES.

I am nostalgic about the pieces that remind me of good times or special people. It always increases the happiness factor of an outfit.

carter, I bet you are right. :)

Janet, I feel the same way when wearing those things. :)

Aziraphale, I'm sorry...I laughed at loud at the one but we have all been there. :)

Angie, it's wonderful to wear things with special memories. :)

    Hi Cheryl!

Oh yeah!  I feel down right dangerous when I wear my new wrap jumpsuit!  Capable of anything.  Very "American Hustle".

Then I grab a safety pin and modesty prevails.

It is fun to flirt w/ different style personas. :)

*Oh no* :o The pressure... hehe!!

But I have to tell y'all, when I do Femme Fatale - dressed to kill - I scare myself. I don't do it too much. You have to do a lot of people wrangling. People pulling your chair out for you, standing when you stand, wanting to escort you, trying to find a lighter and a cigarette to light for you ... And then you have to have a good bit of understated-yet-devastating melodrama in your pocketbook. I mean, it would be such a disappointment if you didn't.

    A. lot. of. work.

    Hehe.

I often say my sweet spot is anything that makes me feel Sassy and puts an extra pep in my step. Is that asking too much of clothing?

  • cheryl replied 9 years ago

rachylou, you are so fun and always make me smile! :)

TraceyLiz65 I like sassy too and definitely not too much to ask for! :)

    The short answer is yes.

The long answer is yes, when I wear all of my clothing I feel like my happiness factor is through the roof. I have a mood or create a persona with every outfit I choose to put on. I set the tone for how I want my day to feel. Yet everything I wear feels like me or that it was made for me no matter what the price point is. From wearing denim jeans everyday at work in a professional manner to feeling such a "high" with a recent thrift store purchase of a 1930's flapper dress that makes me feel so sexy but is not at all revealing.

I believe that clothing sets the atmosphere it can be my armor against the world.

I love what we call a gypsy skirt in these parts. Makes me feel grounded enough to wander without worries. And to read fortunes. And lecture the household. And dance in the rain. All together.

  • citygirldc replied 9 years ago

Oh heck yeah. I think that's the main reason why we wear clothes is to "feel." I feel like certain way of dressing transforms me into someone more confident and of course there are those days that I don't feel so great. Clothes are totally emotional for me.

I like feeling like a dancer too!

Rachy, you crack me up! Fabulous answer.

I am with Janet: Wearing sporty pieces makes me feel more active and fresh, wearing a suit for presentations makes me feel more prepared and confident, and wearing a ladylike outfit is of course making me feel more feminine. I also adore a few things I have that reminds me of special events, like the dress I wore to our 40th (meaning DH and me) birthday party. It IS a bit tired now, and demoted to every day wear, but I still love it.

sometimes, if i have had a bad day (or string of days) at work, i'll make sure that i dress super corporate. that helps me feel like a competent, successful business person.

  • cheryl replied 9 years ago

kkards, that is a great idea! Get that confidence back where it belongs lol.
