No buy January!

I am kind of surprised I made it thru January without making any clothing or shoe purchases.

I did acquire two new items. A free tee shirt from work and I had returned a gift and had a gift card so picked up a top. I didn't try it on in the store and not sure I love it so it may go back. Since it was a gift card I don't count it.

I have also slowly but surely been removing things that just aren't that great for me anymore. Yay!

I will admit to seeing all kinds of gorgeous summer clothes in the store today so I doubt February will be a no buy month, lol.

    You're a stronger woman than I am

Nice job! I'm also not shopping and made it all the way through January too! Except for some sports bras, but I file those under health and fitness not clothes! LOL! I have about 10 months ahead of me of a no shopping ban, keeping my fingers crossed that I can stay strong!

Well done, I only bought 1 pair of earrings, do they count?

  • Isabel replied 11 years ago

Wow, congratulations !!! That is a big accomplishment with all the sales and ads out there now. I just placed an order on Etsy. 2 things will replace to things that were broken and lost and one was for fun. Now I will buy nothing gratuitous for February. My children are in on it too.

Well done. Do you have much on your list?

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Awesome, Cheryl! And inspiring! How long do you plan/hope to go?

  • ManidipaM replied 11 years ago

You're really honing that PPP edge Angie keeps on about, aren't you? ;-)

Wonder what goodies that careful discipline will earn you in February... especially now that you've made r-o-o-m for them in the closet. We'll be watching!

  • jayne replied 11 years ago

Yeah for you! Have you made a list for what you want when you get to again?

    Good going!
January is one of the worst months for me due to sales and more free time to shop!

  • replied 11 years ago

Well done. I too made it all the way through January without purchasing anything.

  • Raisin replied 11 years ago

    Congrats, that's a great accomplishment!

    Thank you Joy!

    Thank you Kiwichik!

Thank you Christy! Bras don't count lol. Good luck with your challenge. You can do it!

Thank you Carolbee! Earrings don't count lol, although I didn't buy any accessories either. Way to go.

Thank you Isabel! Can't wait to see what you bought on Etsy. So many nice things.

    Thank you CocoLion!

Thank you Caro. I really don't need anything which is wonderful. I don't have a firm list but after seeing Angie's awesome pics I think I would like a white pair of jeans. I also saw some gorgeous tropical printed capris/crop pants yesterday and I may end up with a pair.

Thank you Rae! I always shop my budget so I never really plan a shop my closet. If something jumps at me and I can afford it, I buy it, thats why I have so many clothes, lol. Bargain shopper and impulse shopper makes for a large wardrobe. I am working on getting rid of stuff though and being more selective/thoughtful with my new purchases.

Thank you Manidipa! I am trying to make better purchases. It's not easy since i've always been a bargain/impulse shopper.

Thank you Jayne! I haven't made a list aside from wanting some white jeans. I have never shopped from a list but it may be something I should consider doing. I always just go in and buy what jumps at me, lol.

Thank you Lyn D! I am surprised but I have a feeling the February sales will get me, lol.

Thank you Mary! Way to go!

    Way to go Irene!

Good job, Cheryl! I'm always giddy when someone successfully edits their closet.

  • cheryl replied 11 years ago

Thank you Angie! It's a constant work in progress lol.

    Congrats, Cheryl, you're an inspiration!

Cheryl I also hereby crown you Queen Cutest. Everything about you is super genuine, unaffected, uncomplicated, unbeat, happy, huggable, positive and outright DARLING.You really shine from the inside out.

  • Thistle replied 11 years ago

Congrats! That is a great accomplishment, and leaves more in your budget for the beautiful new spring fashions!

  • MsMary replied 11 years ago

    Congrats, Cheryl!

I also made it through January without shopping, except for the following:

    1. Four new fancy, crazy-expensive bras. But I'm with you -- bras don't count! They're, uh, infrastructure!

    2. A tee that I ordered from a fab boutique in Vietnam. I bought one when we were there that has quickly become my fave workout shirt, so I hopped online and ordered another one. But it's workout gear, and that doesn't count, either!

All that was within my budget so I'm feeling pretty good about things. And it feels good to be off the constant-acquisition merry-go-round! I am hoping to save most or all of my "one item per month" allotment for my trip to NYC in September!

Oh, and I am purging, too! Two big bags went to the Rescue Mission last week!

  • replied 11 years ago

Congratulations. I have never been able to do this. It seems I always break, stain, rip or destroy something. Most of my purchases are for replacements.

Miss MK, you shall save away, I shall provide wingman services :)

  • Mona replied 11 years ago

Congratulations, Cheryl. It feels good to prioritize, doesn't it? Do share with us more closet editing thoughts and processes, if you don't mind.

Great job Cheryl. You've got amazing willpower.

  • cheryl replied 11 years ago

    Thank you Alicat!

Angie, you make me blush and make my cheeks hurt from smiling. I can't express how much your wonderful words mean to me!

Thank you Thistle!. Yes, I am ready for spring/summer pretties.

Thank you MaryK! Bras definitely don't count and if you found an awesome workout tee then you must duplicate it, lol. You have such an amazing wardrobe to get you thru. Keep saving that budget. I know your trip to NY is going to be fatastic! Way to go go on the purging. Someone is going to be thrilled with your donations. :)

Zapotee, I never plan it, but now that I am aware I am happy when it happens. I don't have to worry about replacement items too often being on team extra large wardrobe, lol.

Thank you Mona! It does feel good. I will try to share more of my thought process.
