Plaid/Sequin Yay or Nay

Hi! First off don't look at or mind the hair, it's in a clip and I haven't messed with it yet, just pondering this outfit. I am trying the plaid flannel / sequin/ legging look and i'm not sure how I feel about it. I don't really have a belt but felt it needed some waist definition so i tied a scarf around my waist. So is it cute, too lumberjack broad shouldered, or too 80's? All input appreciated. I think i need a tripod. Everyone is taller than me and my full length pics always look off :(

Sequin Tank: Notations
Plaid Flannel: Bongo
Scarf: ?
Leggings: Old Navy
Shoes: Mossimo

First of all, the colors are very nice on you! I love your shoes. Somehow the proportions are off but I'm not sure how much of that is due to your photography problem:-)
Maybe try a belt and then place it a bit higher? This may be a look you have to play with a bit to get it just right. You need to wear that color more often, just gorgeous on you!

Thank you Tina! In real life it drapes a little better, i think the camera angle and the way i have my arms make it look weird. I need to buy a belt!

Love the plaid and sequin mix! Great colors, too. I agree the belt is a little low - or maybe it doesn't need the belt at all?

Rae, I don't feel comfortable in belts so I think you might be right! Thank you.

I'm far from knowledgeable enough in fashion to give good feedback but I had to say that you have such an infectious, irrepressible smile that I can't imagine anything not looking good on you.

Thank you so much calmwave, that is such a thoughtful thing to say. :)

That's why Cheryl is our Queen Smile :). Her kind, bubbly and positive persona shines along with everything that she wears. I want to hug Cheryl each time I see her photo!

You know I love the pairing of flannel with sequins! I do wonder whether the shirt is a little too oversized, though. Perhaps that is what is putting you off? I'm not sure whether a belt will fix the silhouette.

The leggings and ballet flats combo are so sweet on you. And great to see your killer specs again :)

I really wish you would repost with the belt up higher, as I feel that it is throwing off the entire look. Taking pictures is so helpful for us to get a good view as I for one know my mirror lies to me.... I love the pieces and just know the belt is the problem and am itching to see that. can't help myself, ...

  • cheryl replied 11 years ago

Thank you Angie! You are too sweet! The shirt is probably just a bit too big.

TraceyLiz65, my photographer isn't here anymore, lol. It might look better higher or if I had a real belt and not a scarf. At the moment I have taken Rae's thought and removed the belt. I'm not sure it looks any better but I feel more like me, lol.

    :)

If the belt were more like an obi belt without hanging ends... maybe you can tuck the ends in? I do feel the plaid is a little big in the upper chest and arm holes, but as you say, when your arms are down the drape is much better.

But these are tweaks. I quite like the look overall. Love those shoes!

    Thank you rachylou :)

Gorgeous colors in the shirt on you.

blue is a beautiful color on you. I agree, you definitely don't need the belt.

    Thank you Zapotee.

I did wear it without the belt and got a couple compliments at work so thats always a good thing :) and it was a really comfortable outfit.

@Cheryl - I think it would work out without a belt. I think this is the item throwing the proportions off. The blue is lovely on you and the entire combo has a really cute gamine feel to it!

Love the plaid and sequins and the colors are beautiful on you. I am with Rae, you don't need the belt. I do wonder if the shirt isn't a touch too big on you though??

  • lyn67 replied 11 years ago

Shirt is a bit oversized here-overhelming you, and I wouldn't belt it at all just let it open, as I almost cannot see the sequins on your tank, but then you'll have to look for a more streamlined plaid shirt...or can you take in on this one? Great colours, and esp love the flats:-)

  • cheryl replied 11 years ago

Thank you MsKatieKat, Deborah and lyn67. I skipped the belt and let it hang almost like a flannel dress lol. Shirt is a bit big and it will probably shrink some after washing. I only paid 99cents for it new on clearance at Kmart, lol so its not worth altering. Worst case scenario it becomes a sleep shirt lol. :)
